Questions parents ask
What is Key Stage 2?
Key Stage 2 is Years 3 to 6 of primary school in England, for children aged 7 to 11. The national curriculum sets out what is taught in each year in maths, English and the other subjects.
What are the KS2 SATs?
National tests taken in May of Year 6: English reading; grammar, punctuation and spelling; and maths (one arithmetic paper and two reasoning papers). Writing is assessed by the teacher.
What is the Multiplication Tables Check?
An on-screen check in June of Year 4: 25 multiplication facts up to 12 × 12, with six seconds to answer each one.
Does my child need to be sitting the 11 Plus to use Prism?
No. Prism opens on your child’s school year with the maths and English expected for that year. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning and entrance papers are there for families who want them, as stretch.
Do independent schools follow KS2?
Many prep and independent schools teach beyond it or to their own scheme, but the KS2 maths and English content is the common ground, so practice at the right year helps wherever your child learns.
