Parents

Getting started as a parent. Read by Emma, with captions on screen.
  1. Create your account. Choose Get started. Enter your name, your email and a password.
  2. Set up your child. Their first name, the month and year they were born, a username and a password. Your child does not need an email address.
  3. Start the free trial. The plan is £9.99 a month for each child, with 7 days free (14 if you joined through a tutor’s link). You add your card on Stripe’s secure page and pay nothing today.
  4. Confirm your email. The last step: we email you a 6-digit code, and you type it in.
  5. Your child signs in. With their own username and password. Their first job is the starting assessment, about 25 minutes across four subjects.
  6. Follow their progress. Your own dashboard shows how ready they are for each target school and what to work on next.

Does your child use Prism at school? Then they already have a login. Create your account and enter the parent code from the school where sign-up asks for your child. If your child has a tutor, you can share your child with them in Settings.

Tutors

Getting started as a tutor. Read by Emma, with captions on screen.
  1. Create your free account. Choose Get started, then Tutor. Enter your name, your email and a password. There is nothing to pay.
  2. Find your invite link. It is on your My students page, with a QR code.
  3. Send it to your families. A parent opens it, creates their account and sets up their child. The child gets 14 days free, and the parent chooses to share them with you.
  4. See each pupil. Every shared child appears in My students with their results and the topics to work on.
  5. Open Teaching tools. Make a group, plan your next lesson, set work or a mock, and send parents a report.

A family already on Prism can give you a one-time code from their Settings. Enter it on your My students page.

Schools and tuition centres

Setting up a small school or tuition centre. Read by Emma, with captions on screen.
  1. Create your account. Choose Get started, then School. Sign up as the teacher who will run Prism for the school.
  2. Name your school. Type its name, choose School or Tuition centre, and press Start the free trial. No card is needed for the first 30 days.
  3. Sign the data agreement. Enter the school address and a data protection contact, read the agreement, then type your name and role and sign. This is done once.
  4. Add your pupils. Type or paste their names, one on each line, and choose the year group. Prism makes a username and password for each pupil.
  5. Hand out the logins. Print the slips straight away: passwords are shown only once. For a parent, press Parent code beside the pupil.
  6. Add your colleagues. Create a teacher code. Each teacher signs up for a free account and enters it.
  7. Start the plan. A tuition centre starts its plan on the same page: £5 a pupil a month or £50 a pupil a year, for 10 pupils or more. A school is confirmed by us first, usually within two working days, then has a full term free; the school price is £15 a pupil a year, for 30 pupils or more.

Questions about getting started

Do I need a card to start?

A parent adds a card to start the free trial and pays nothing until it ends. A tutor never needs a card. A school or tuition centre needs no card for its first 30 days.

We are a small school. Can we use the school plan?

Yes. The school plan is £15 a pupil a year and the smallest plan is 30 pupils, which is £450 a year. A smaller group can use the tuition centre plan instead: £5 a pupil a month or £50 a pupil a year, for 10 pupils or more.

Why does a school sign an agreement first?

The school is the controller of its pupils’ information and Prism processes it for the school. UK data protection law requires a written agreement for that, so it is signed once, on screen, before any pupil is added.

How does a parent follow a child who uses Prism at school?

The teacher presses Parent code beside the pupil and gives the code to the parent. The parent creates a free account and enters the code where sign-up asks for their child, or later in Settings.

How does a tutor connect to a child?

The tutor sends their invite link. The parent opens it, sets up their child and chooses to share them. A family already on Prism can instead create a one-time code in Settings for the tutor to enter.
