How to prepare
The SEAG Transfer Test (Northern Ireland) covers maths and English. Most families start steady preparation in Year 4 or early Year 5, building accuracy first and speed later, then sit timed papers through the summer before the test, which usually takes place in November.
For maths, secure the Key Stage 2 arithmetic, fractions, ratio and problem solving before moving to the multi-step questions that separate the strongest candidates.
For English, read widely every day and practise comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar; selective tests reward precise word knowledge.

Question 1Aim for about 60 seconds
If 13 December is a Tuesday, what day of the week is 18 February?
Show the worked answer
Answer: D, Saturday
How to work it out
Count the days: 18 more in December, 31 in January and 18 in February, so 67 days.
67 = 9 weeks and 4 days.
Whole weeks bring you back to Tuesday; 4 more days gives Saturday.
Why the other options are wrong
A (Sunday): This counts one day too many: the start day itself is not counted.
B (Monday): Check the number of days left in December again.
C (Thursday): This treats December or January as having 30 days; both have 31.
E (Friday): This counts one day too few. Count the days after the start date, up to and including the end date.
